Family literacy and numeracy programmes have been established in Wales for over a decade. In Phase 2 of the Basic Skills Strategy for Wales, funding will still be available for KUWC courses in Communities First areas and other areas of significant disadvantage, but not for courses in other areas. These programmes will now be part of the responsibility of LEAs and schools. To help with this we want to disseminate lessons from the KUWC programme and to publish exemplar material to encourage continuing provision of these courses in 2006-2008.
