National Support Project for Young People

The National Support Project for Young People aims to:

  • Attract young people aged 14-19, specifically those with poor basic skills, back into learning programmes that will help them improve these skills.
  • Encourage flexible approaches that motivate and engage young people and help raise their attainment
  • Find additional, innovative ways of engaging with these young people
  • Work with providers to help them reach the standard required by the Basic Skills Quality Mark.

In order to motivate young people into becoming more involved and engaged in learning, and to raise their attainment levels, the NSP will:

  • Provide high-quality, accessible and relevant printed and ICT-based learning materials
  • Train and support those who plan and deliver PLUS basic skills enrichment materials
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the PLUS basic skills enrichment materials
  • Promote an understanding of the links between literacy and numeracy, participation and progression.
